Microsoft Power Platform
Build the apps, automations and agents your organisation runs on — and be the person who can govern them, not just the person who can drag a button onto a screen. A wide, non-developer entry point into a genuinely technical enterprise role.
The Microsoft Power Platform is how a very large share of enterprises now build software without a full development team: apps with Power Apps, automations with Power Automate, external sites with Power Pages, AI agents with Copilot Studio, all on the shared Dataverse data platform. This course teaches you to build all of it — and, more importantly, to govern it, which is the skill employers actually pay for. It has a deliberately wide entry point: no programming background is required, and the pro-developer extensions are taught as optional depth.
"If AI Can Build Apps From a Prompt, Why Learn Low-Code?"
It is the fair question of 2026, and it deserves a direct answer:
The platform didn't get replaced by AI — it absorbed it. Power Platform is becoming an "AI control plane": the governed place where an organisation builds, secures and operates the agents and automations that AI makes easy to create. The skill has shifted from dragging controls to designing solutions and governing what everyone else is now able to build.
Two things follow, and this course is built around both. First, agents are core, not a bonus. Copilot Studio and agent-building sit alongside apps and flows — you learn to build, connect and govern agents, including connecting them to tools through emerging integration standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Second, and decisively:
Governance is the professional-value centre of gravity. The characteristic 2026 failure is a business user building an agent over a weekend, wiring it to corporate data, publishing it to a chat platform, and creating a security and compliance incident nobody authorised. The platform made building easy; governing at scale is the scarce skill — and it is what separates a professional from a hobbyist. You will learn environment strategy, data loss prevention policies, agent publishing and channel controls, consumption caps that prevent billing surprises, and application lifecycle management with source control and audit trails.
Power Platform vs Power BI — Which Course Do You Need?
Power BI is one of the five pillars of the Power Platform, so it is worth being precise about where each course goes:
- This course (Power Platform) is the application, automation and agent side — building apps, automating processes, external sites and AI agents on Dataverse. It touches Power BI only at the level of embedding a report and understanding where it fits.
- Our Microsoft Power BI course is analytics and business intelligence in depth — data modelling, DAX and reporting. For analytics depth, take that course; this one deliberately defers to it rather than duplicating it.
- For the pro-code counterpart to Copilot Studio's low-code agents, our AI Agent Development course builds agents in code — a natural next step once you have hit the edges of what low-code agents should do.

Course Highlights
- Every module leads with what you build, automate or ship — not what you "learn about"
- Agents treated as core — Copilot Studio alongside apps and flows, connected through emerging integration standards
- A full governance module — the part that separates a professional from a hobbyist and the reason to take the course
- Delegation and performance taught properly — the concepts that quietly break low-code apps at scale
- Both canvas and model-driven apps, plus external-facing Power Pages
- Cloud and desktop automation, including robotic process automation for systems with no API
- Application lifecycle management with solutions, source control and deployment pipelines
- A capstone that is designed, built, secured, governed and defended — not just demoed

Multi-step approval with error handling and notifications.
Drives a legacy system that has no API.
Grounded on organisational data, with guardrails and an audit trail — built the way IT would actually allow it to ship.
Document processing with human review where it matters.
Environment strategy, data loss prevention policy, agent publishing controls and consumption caps for a simulated organisation.
Move a solution from development to production with source control.
Complete app + automation + agent, secured, governed and defended.

Certification Alignment
- Mapped to the Microsoft Power Platform fundamentals and functional-consultant certification paths, with the app-maker and developer credentials positioned as onward steps
- Note: Microsoft's Power Platform certification line-up is actively changing — the fundamentals objectives were reshaped in a recent refresh, and some credentials are being restructured. We align to the current skills, and always recommend confirming the live exam outline on Microsoft's certification pages before you book
- Presented as preparation and alignment only — no official partnership or accreditation implied, and no exam outcome guaranteed
Career Outcomes
The Power Platform is deployed across a very large share of enterprises already invested in Microsoft 365, which makes the skill broadly employable across industries and reachable from a non-engineering background — one of the few genuinely accessible routes into a technical, well-rewarded role for functional and business professionals. And as organisations rush to deploy AI agents, the scarce and rising-value skill is governing them safely, not just building them. Microsoft-centric enterprises, consultancies and global capability centres are the main employers. This course targets:
- Power Platform Developer
- Power Platform Functional Consultant
- Low-Code Developer
- Business Applications Consultant
- Automation Specialist
- Copilot Studio / Agent Maker
- Power Platform Administrator
- Solution Architect (with experience)
- Business Analyst with build capability
Who This Course Is For
- Business analysts, operations, finance, HR and functional professionals who want to build solutions rather than wait for IT — this is the primary audience
- Final-year students and fresh graduates, including from non-CS backgrounds, wanting an accessible technical entry point
- IT professionals and administrators taking ownership of a Power Platform environment
- Existing Power Platform makers who can build but not govern — the gap that limits careers in this field
- Developers who want to deliver internal tools far faster than with full-code
- Consultants and functional roles in Microsoft-centric organisations
Material Includes
- Class recordings
- Build-along labs & a developer-environment setup guide
- Governance templates, solution checklists & ALM pipeline samples
- Certificate
Prerequisites
- Comfort with everyday business software and spreadsheets
- No programming background required
- Pro-developer extensions taught as optional depth
Estimated Time: 6 Hours
You build:- A Dataverse data model — tables, relationships and roles — and the environment strategy that underpins everything else you will ship
- The five pillars and how they fit; when low-code is the right answer and when it isn't; environments and the environment strategy that underpins everything
- Dataverse as the shared data backbone — tables, relationships, choices, business rules and roles
- Connectors and the difference between standard and premium; solutions as the unit of delivery
Estimated Time: 6 Hours
You build:- A pixel-controlled canvas app connected to data — built from the start to avoid delegation limits, the single concept that quietly breaks canvas apps at scale
- Building pixel-controlled apps; connecting to data; screens and navigation; galleries and forms
- The formula language; variables and collections; offline and mobile behaviour; responsive design
- Patterns for performance; delegation — the single concept that quietly breaks canvas apps at scale
Estimated Time: 6 Hours
You build:- A model-driven app on Dataverse and an external-facing Power Pages portal — and learn when to choose canvas versus model-driven versus a portal
- Model-driven apps on Dataverse; forms, views, charts and dashboards; business process flows; security roles
- Power Pages for external-facing portals with authentication and controlled data access
- When to choose canvas versus model-driven versus a portal

Estimated Time: 6 Hours
You deliver:- One complete solution — app, automation and agent on Dataverse — designed, built, secured and governed, and then you defend the architecture and the governance around it
- Integrating with the wider Microsoft cloud and external services; custom connectors; where a pro-developer extends the platform with code
- Embedding analytics from the Power BI course; the honest limits of low-code
- Capstone: design, build, secure and govern one complete solution — and defend the architecture and the governance around it
